Well said, Mark!
I met Gabby in 2002 at a scheduled appointment where I was going to beg her to vote my way in regards to a breast cancer issue.
I was energized after our meeting. I had never been involved in the process before, and to have that meeting with a thoughtful and passionate listener and leader got me fired up. Since that day I've been an advocate when I can be for whatever I believe in.
I often ask, "how can we expect our representatives to vote the way we want them to if we don't TELL them?"
Gabby is the example of how the system should work: "what do you want, why do you feel that way, here is the actual situation...now....let's fix this."
For years I have admired her, respected her, and been proud and encouraged to have her as my voice, my vote.
Regarding the memorial: I am so glad I was there. And the next day it hurt to read how inappropriate everyone in the media thought Tucson was. It was a night to acknowledge heroes, celebrate the survivors, and to honor the memory of the friends lost that day.
And our leaders gave a shit. So cheers to leaders giving a shit, cheers to the heroes, cheers to the survivors, and a cheers and tears to those we have lost....
